PANCHKULA: Panchkula is becoming known for 'broad-daylight' crimes. Around five bone-chilling crimes have taken place recently in broad-daylight . The Wednesday morning incident of attempt to loot at the residence of Thakurs' in sector-10, Panchkula at 11 am in the morning was an intimation that the criminals have taken the police machinery for granted.

It was on May 17 when a person was shot at and robbed of Rs 4,40,000 by four miscreants in a white zen in daylight when he was coming from a bank in sector-11,Panchkula after withdrawing money on behalf of his employer. The victim, Brij Mohan, who was seriously injured, is still in PGI, Chandigarh. The white Zen gang shot him publicly in the residential area of sector-12,Panchkula.
On June 18 an attempt to kidnap a 6-year-old child was made by two men outside his residence in sector-9, Panchkula around 2.30 pm in the afternoon. It was after the child bit on the arm of one of the miscreants and raised an alarm that the two fled.
Similarly in another broad-daylight incident on March 15, cash and jewellery worth Rs 40 lakhs were robbed when three robbers struck the residence of Modis' in sector-7, Panchkula after holding an eight month old baby girl to ransom. It was around 2 pm in the afternoon when the miscreants struck at their house.
Also, on February 20, when an MDC resident, Karan Datta alleged that an attempt to kidnap him was made by five men in the sector-2, Panchkula market. It was after the police reached the spot that they fled.
It was on Wednesday morning at 11 am when a youth made an attempt to loot the house of Thakurs' at sector-10, Panchkula after forcibly entering the house. It was when the youngest son, Shivam, 12, was taking bath when heard the screams of his sister and mother and also saw an unidentified person with a pistol threatening the maid. The latter climbed the backyard wall to call the neighbours as a result of which the youth got scared and locked himself in the bathroom. The police came and nabbed him.

"If the criminals are attacking even during day time, it clearly shows that they have taken the police for granted. They are doing it publicly during day time which shows they are not scared of the police," said Davya Singh, a resident of sector-10, Panchkula. Davya is a teacher in a private school.
"We don't feel safe even in our homes. The situation of crime in Panchkula has become pathetic than it is Chandigarh," said Vijay Brar, a resident of sector-11,Panchkula.
